Self-care is essential to your well-being. No longer considered an indulgence, it has now been proven that implementing a program of self-care promotes healing and boosts the immune system by releasing endorphins into the bloodstream. Caring for yourself involves more than maintaining a balance of the demands on your time and energy. It also involves creating a blend of activities that support your body, mind and spirit.
- Exercise: Honor the fact that your body was designed to move and explore the many exercise options available in our society. You’ll find one you like that accommodates your schedule and develop strength and flexibility for your efforts. Weight balancing will be a nice benefit, too!
- Eating: Choosing food that is nourishing and comforting to your body is an act of consciousness and reflects your spiritual growth. Remember that your body is how you are able to be in this world; it’s the container for your spirit in this world of form. So it’s more than just a digestive system and food is more than just taste, vitamins, and fiber!
- • Massage or other bodywork: Regular massage moves toxins out of the body and returns elasticity to the skin and tissues. Consider it part of your regular self-care program and watch the benefits show up in your body, emotions, and mind. You will be more effective at work and more relaxed at home. Celebrities have weekly massages—that’s why they look so great!
- • Manicures and pedicures: Even if you don’t use nail polish, the treatment of your hands and feet on a regular basis makes you feel fabulous—which raises your self-esteem and improves your outlook on life. Don’t you think the parts of your body that bring you things, hold other people, and get you places deserve special treatment? Time to appreciate them!
- • Skin care: Your skin is the largest eliminative organ in the body, so taking good care of it is fundamental to your self-care program. I use BeautiControl for both my skin care needs and my cosmetics. The professional quality of their products and their emphasis on spa time for relaxation are in alignment with my values on self-care. Contact me for more information.
- • Creativity: Here, I multi-task: I meditate while I knit or crochet. It’s such an easy and direct way to access the higher realms for guidance and inspiration—and before you know it, you’ve created a handmade gift for someone special!
